About Lotus Club
The history of Lotus Club dates back to the British Colonial era. A time when all the clubs in the country were exclusive to the British and were referred to as "English Clubs". No Indian was allowed entry to these clubs. Lady Gertrude Bristow was the wife of Sir Robert Bristow, a representative of the British Government who was entrusted with the task of developing a modern port at Cochin. But the Bristows were denied admission to Cochin Club because Lady Gertrude was not English born! Undaunted, Lady Gertrude with the cooperation of some prominent families of Cochin, got a suitable piece of land assigned by the Maharaja of Cochin to start a club.
